While I’m not generally the biggest fan of the free Wyndham rewards program, their current promotion is worth mentioning. For those unfamiliar, Wyndham owns Days Inn, Ramada, Dolce, Howard Johnson, Super 8, Wyndham and others. It’s pretty much impossible to go anywhere in the continental United States and not find one of their brands nearby.
Right now they’re running a “Stay Twice, Earn a Free Night” promotion where you earn enough points with their free Wyndham Rewards program to stay for free at almost any of their brands after just two qualified stays at their hotels.
Choice Hotels ran a similar program in the fall and (per usual) did it better, allowing you to claim the reward an infinite number of times (this award can only be claimed once per member) but this is still nothing to sneeze at and it does have a few advantages.
First of all (and most importantly)… Choice isn’t running that promotion right now.
Second of all, unlike Choice’s promotion there doesn’t seem to be a minimum cost per night that’s required to net a “Qualifying stay”. Since Wyndham charges a flat rate of 15,000 points at every hotel regardless of quality or price (something that’s normally quite annoying), this means you can stay at 2 Super 8 locations for $40 a night and earn enough points for a free night at hotels like Caesars Palace Las Vegas , Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront, or Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach.
Normally this flat rate redemption pricing makes Wyndham rewards impractical, but with a promotion like this it’s worth taking a flyer on them and saving up for a free night at a killer hotel room. It’s free to join Wyndham Rewards anyway, what do you have to lose?
